The IDAK Food Group, which operates in the premium frozen food sector, has taken over the majority of Romer’s Hausbäckerei, based in Benken SG, with effect from 22 August 2023. With this, IDAK is further expanding its strong position in the frozen food sector. In addition to KADI AG with potatoes & snacks and Margherita Srl with pizza & pizza snacks, Romer’s Hausbäckerei with baked goods & snacks now forms the third business segment of the Group.
The family business Romer’s Hausbäckerei was established over 40 years ago and enjoys an excellent reputation in the Swiss market. It produces high-quality frozen baked goods in various categories. Around 350 employees are involved in the success of the company, which also has a strong organisational structure and a well-coordinated management team at all levels.
“Thanks to these and other qualities, Romer’s is the ideal addition to our Group. Accordingly, we are looking forward to expanding our portfolio strategically in the premium food sector,” says Christof Lehmann, CEO of the IDAK Food Group. The companies KADI AG with potatoes & snacks and Margherita Srl with pizza & pizza snacks are already included under the IDAK umbrella and have been very successful in the frozen food sector. Romer’s Hausbäckerei now complements the Group with a third business segment – baked goods & snacks.

This is especially true in terms of innovative spirit, customer orientation as well as in the areas of leadership and our approach to quality,” says Lehmann. The company will remain unchanged with its two locations in Benken SG and Oberburg BE: “The independence of Romer’s Hausbäckerei contributes significantly to its success.” Thanks to IDAK’s portfolio, both sides will be able to benefit from a great deal of know-how in the frozen food sector, and also take advantage of attractive growth opportunities.
The Romer family has chosen IDAK because they believe in it
The previous owners – the Romer family – took a familial and considered approach to deciding the future of their extremely successful business and sought to manage this decision proactively and responsibly. “We are very happy to have chosen as our successors a company which not only has strong roots in Switzerland but which has a similar approach and values to us. The Romer family remains a shareholder in Romer’s Hausbäckerei and continues to sit on the Board of Directors. Remo Romer will continue to be available to the company in his position as Managing Director until a successor has been arranged and successfully onboarded. This approach will ensure a calm and stable transition phase.

Together with its distribution partners, it operates throughout Switzerland, has an extremely strong market position and supplies several thousand hotels and restaurants, bulk buyers and retailers.
