CyberGuard and Toshiba America Medical Systems Partner
to deliver secure VPN solutions to HIPAA-Sensitive Healthcare
Providers
The Leader in Medical Diagnostic Imaging Chooses CyberGuard to
Deploy VPN
Tunnels for Secure Remote Diagnostics and Maintenance Within Healthcare
Networks
BOCA RATON, Fla., March 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CyberGuard
Corporation (Nasdaq: CGFW), a global provider of security solutions
that protect the critical components of the largest and most complex
information networks for Global 2000 enterprises and government
organizations, today announced that Toshiba America Medical Systems,
Inc., a national provider of medical imaging equipment and services,
has selected CyberGuard to upgrade their existing security system
for secure access to scanners and medical diagnostic imaging equipment
located within HIPAA-sensitive networks.
The VPN concentrator is based upon existing CyberGuard SG710
hardware and can handle up to 1,000 simultaneous VPN tunnels to
securely network this leader in medical imaging with its customer
hospitals and imaging centers throughout the country. It has been
further customized to provide extended authentication, which affords
tighter control over access to sensitive data.
"HMOs, hospitals and doctors are working diligently to deliver
the best care available in an increasingly competitive and cost-sensitive
environment," said Tim Peeler, director, services technical
operations, Toshiba America Medical Systems. "In addition
to competitive pressures, new HIPAA regulations require more accountability
and tighter control over access to equipment used for patient
diagnostic imaging. CyberGuard's ability to integrate with our
existing security and authentication structure, as well as versatility
of implementation made them the obvious choice for our remote-access
installation."
CyberGuard's VPN concentrator solution helps medical providers
slash system administration overhead, improve security and simplify
management of many devices through:
* Simultaneous and automated upgrades of security patches and
router OS
versions across all devices in a medical center or provider network;
* Single point of administration and analysis for alerts, management
and
tracking of security incidents without requiring systems administrators
to manage individual devices;
* Single point to administer security policies for all devices
in a
specific geographic location or across distributed enterprise
workgroups; and
* Restricting user access to specific VPN tunnels.
"The fact that our technology is relied upon to secure the
information assets of the largest enterprises in the world made
it an ideal fit to power this solution for healthcare providers
who are concerned with HIPAA regulation," said Pat Clawson,
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, CyberGuard. "We are
pleased that our products have been selected to enable collaboration
between healthcare providers and medical imaging manufacturers
to occur more quickly and securely."
The VPN concentrator is unique because it can control which VPN
tunnels an individual user may access based upon domain authentication
through Active Directory. The VPN concentrator queries other systems
through LDAP and knows exactly what systems/sites the user is
allowed to access. That access is simultaneously logged for later
auditing. Toshiba America Medical Systems is using standard X.509
certificates for setup of IPsec tunnels for the system.
