CyberGuard Appoints Dr. Horst Joepen Senior Vice
President Strategic Alliances
BOCA RATON, Fla.- Dec. 14, 2004 - CyberGuard Corporation (Nasdaq:
CGFW), a provider of proven, intelligent security solutions that
protect business-critical assets for Global 2,000 organizations
and government entities worldwide, today announced the appointment
of Dr. Horst Joepen, chief executive officer of the company's
Webwasher subsidiary, to senior vice president strategic alliances.
In addition to his responsibilities as CEO of Webwasher AG, Dr.
Joepen is also now responsible for establishing and advancing
CyberGuard's strategically important partnerships.
One of the main aspects of his work will be the integration of
the CyberGuard management console Global Command Center(TM) with
third party network management tools. In the past five years since
founding Webwasher, Joepen has been influential in establishing
and expanding strategic alliances with such leading information
technology companies as Network Appliance, Computer Associates,
McAfee and others.
"Webwasher has long-standing, successful partnerships, not
just with traditional security vendors but also with other established
major players in IT," said Pat Clawson, chairman and chief
executive officer of CyberGuard. "We want to make use of
Horst's experience in this area for the entire corporation. A
key element of our strategy is to grow our business through partnerships
- establishing new ones and growing existing partnerships. We
look forward to new and interesting partners in the near future."
"After building Webwasher with my team from a start-up to
a very successful privately held company, I am excited about the
opportunity to use my experience in cultivating strategic partnerships
for the benefit of CyberGuard," said Dr. Horst Joepen. "After
successfully integrating our teams and introducing the first joint
products after just six months, CyberGuard is moving ahead to
optimally utilize the particular strengths and qualities of all
individuals in the companies that have been acquired."
In August, CyberGuard appointed Gary Taggart, Webwasher's former
US general manager, to senior vice president worldwide sales for
CyberGuard Corporation.
