CyberGuard Adds Veteran National Security Expert to Board

BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 9, 2004--CyberGuard Corporation (Nasdaq:CGFW), a provider of proven, intelligent security solutions that protect business-critical assets for Global 2,000 organizations and government entities worldwide, has appointed Michael J. Jacobs to its board of directors. Currently director of cyber and national security at SRA International, a provider of information technology services and solutions to national security, health care and public health, and civil government markets, Jacobs was director of information assurance at the National Security Agency (NSA), Fort Meade, Maryland, from December 1997 to March 2002.

While there, he managed the design, development, production, deployment and support of information security products and technology for the federal government. When he served as NSA's deputy associate director for operations, military support, he was responsible for developing a unified military support strategy. He retired from the Federal Government in March 2002 after 38 years of service with NSA.

In addition to his knowledge of the federal government, Jacobs has first-hand experience and insight into local and state government. From 1997 to 2001 he served as the mayor of College Park, Maryland, following 14 years as a member of the city council.

Among his career accomplishments, Jacobs was recognized by the Department of Defense with the Distinguished Civilian Service Medal; by the Director Central Intelligence with the Intelligence Community's Distinguished Service Award; and by NSA with the Exceptional Civilian Service Award. He was also awarded the National Intelligence Medal of Achievement and the Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Achievement.
