65 million licenses of Esmertec’s Java runtime
solutions sold
Esmertec, a leading provider of Java solutions for mobile multimedia
phones and embedded devices, demonstrates strong momentum in the
global market with a large number of mobile handset designers
and manufacturers adopting its embedded Java platform solutions.
Major handset manufacturers and platform providers, including
Agere Systems, Alphacell, Cellon, Compal, Codacom, Dai Telecom,
Ezze Mobile, Infineon, Intel, LG Electronics, Pantech, QUALCOMM,
Quanta, Skyworks, TTPcom, Texas Instruments, Vitelcom and Wavecom,
have selected Esmertec’s flagship J2ME™ solution,
Jbed™ CLDC, resulting in over 30 contracted mobile handset
projects currently being delivered worldwide.
With the successful integration of Insignia and Kada Systems
employees and assets, Esmertec has one of the most experienced
R&D teams in the field of embedded devices with a global customer
delivery and support infrastructure.
“Over the last 18 months, we have established new customer
operations in Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul, Taipei and
Tokyo,” said Alain Blancquart, CEO of Esmertec. “Together
with our other offices in Europe and USA, we have an excellent
infrastructure to better support our customers locally.”
As of February 2004, the company has recorded sales of over 65
million licenses of its embedded Java solutions. Based on current
customer contracts, Esmertec expects its mobile Java platforms
to be embedded in over 170 Million Java-enabled devices in the
next 18 months.

At 3GSM, Esmertec presented Jcap™, its wireless component
application platform that facilitates the development of fully
customised mobile phones. It is designed to enable handset manufacturers
to significantly reduce development, integration and testing time
and costs. It opens up new revenue opportunities with Over-The-Air
(OTA) applications, and it empowers users with unique personalisation
and customisation capabilities.
