Trados Combines Language Technology with the Documentum Enterprise Content Management Platform

Sunnyvale, California, December, 9th, 2003 - TRADOS Incorporated announced today the availability of the TRADOS Language Server (tm) for Documentum, the first of its kind integration that puts language technology into the heart of a content management platform. As the leaders in language technology and enterprise content management, respectively, TRADOS and Documentum have teamed to deliver this tight integration that enables customers to get the best of both worlds.
The solution provides a significant return on investment for organizations operating on a worldwide basis, by eliminating the time-consuming, repetitive and expensive processes involved in adapting content for global markets.

"As a global company, Volkswagen recognized early on that translation and localization were key components of global content management." said Mr. Jan Rüger, Project Service Leader for Document Management at Volkswagen." We expected the same kinds of efficiencies in adapting content globally as in the process of authoring it. We achieved these results by tightly integrating TRADOS memories and the Documentum enterprise content management platform."

"Audi integrated TRADOS translation memory into our Documentum deployment in order to take advantage of both content management and language technology in one content process, " said Maximilian Schreiner, Audi Systems, Coordinator of Service Literature. "We see translation memory as a critical cost savings and time to market component of our global content management lifecycle."

The TRADOS Language Server(tm) for Documentum responds to a growing demand from multinational corporations that are looking for more efficient ways to manage global content. The ability to prepare product and marketing content for global markets in an efficient and timely manner has emerged as a critical competitive and strategic advantage in the increasingly global economy. With companies achieving forty to sixty percent of their revenues outside their home markets, the ability to move information quickly and cost-effectively to local markets helps drive top line revenue and control global costs.

"The incorporation of language technology into content management systems has always been part of our vision and extends the footprint of language technology into the heart of the enterprise where it matters most" said Dev Ganesan, CEO of TRADOS. "By teaming with the leader in enterprise content management, we ensure that customers have access to best-of-breed solutions for their multilingual needs."

"Documentum continues to lead the way in delivering truly global content management solutions," said Rob Tarkoff, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategic Officer for Documentum. "This new solution for the first time puts content globalization where it belongs, within the content management system, as another step in the content lifecycle."

"Adaptation of content to global markets is an expensive and labor-intensive enterprise function that is both content-centric and process driven", said Sebastian Holst, Senior Editor of The Gilbane Report. "The marriage of enterprise content management to a content globalization solution promises to improve organizational productivity, product quality, and, ultimately, corporate profitability. Content globalization is a hard problem worth solving."

The TRADOS Language Server(tm) for Documentum combines translation memory and terminology management modules with the Documentum ECM platform to enable global customers to capture, store and reuse localized content that has been previously translated. The TRADOS memory module enables global companies to capture, store, and reuse chunks of localized information that have been previously translated and cut the cost of global content preparation by forty to sixty percent. The TRADOS terminology module helps companies standardize their brand, improve quality and consistency, meet regulatory requirements, and avoid legal problems. The TRADOS Language Server (tm) is deployed within the Documentum environment and is integrated with the Documentum workflow via a Web Services connector, the TRADOS Content Services for Documentum.
