Webwasher AG Presents World’s First Solution
For Filtering Encrypted Web Traffic
Hannover, Germany, March 12, 2003 – At CeBIT 2003, webwasher
AG, a leading provider of Internet Security Software, presents
a real novelty: the filtering of SSL encrypted Web traffic is
now possible with the WebWasher® CSM products for Content
Security Management (CSM). This means that the current biggest
security gap in companies’ and public institutions’
networks can be closed for the first time – the topic of
Internet security gains a whole new dimension. The WebWasher®
CSM Suite, the comprehensive solution for integrated Content Security
Management, is already being shown with SSL filtering at CeBIT.
Shipping clearance will follow at the beginning of May.
SSL (Secure Socket Layer) allows the encrypted transfer of information
between Web browser and Web server. SSL has established itself
as the standard for e-commerce and has proven itself over the
course of several years, for example for the transfer of highly
confidential data such as credit card numbers. Today, every data
transfer during online shopping, every electronic banking transaction
and every e-mail entering and leaving freemail accounts is encrypted
using SSL.
Up to now, it was considered impossible to apply content filtering
to SSL traffic, which is usually tunnelled through an HTTPS proxy
server. By means of a newly developed technology from webwasher,
SSL traffic can be subjected to all filtering and security mechanisms
– including URL blocking and antivirus protection. By integrating
SSL filtering into WebWasher’s comprehensive Content Security
Management, companies and public institutions can achieve new
standards of security, which up to now appeared impossible. When
WebWasher is deployed, the filtering of the SSL data does not
clash with a company’s security policies – secure
SSL encryption is guaranteed in spite of content filtering.
“With this breakthrough in SSL filtering, we have revolutionized
Content Security Management”, said Dr. Horst Joepen, President
and CEO of webwasher AG. “Our customers and partners urgently
need this new technology, which none of our competitors has been
able to provide. A large part of today’s Web traffic is
already encrypted – the market for solutions that filter
and secure HTTPS traffic will experience a rapid growth in the
next few years.”
